Sun Strip and Decal Installation Guide Using Slip Solution
Tools Needed:
- Sun strip/decal of your choice
- Slip solution: Mix water with a few drops of baby shampoo or mild soap
- Squeegee or credit card wrapped in a cloth
- Spray bottle (filled with slip solution)
- Microfiber towel
- Utility knife or razor blade (for trimming)
- Masking tape (optional)
Step-by-Step Guide:
-
Clean the Surface:
- Thoroughly clean the windshield or surface where the sun strip or decal will be applied. Use a window cleaner or alcohol-based solution to remove dirt, oils, and any residue.
- Dry the surface with a microfiber towel.
-
Measure and Position:
- Use masking tape to mark the edges or centerline for accurate positioning of the sun strip/decal. This helps you align it properly during installation.
-
Prepare Slip Solution:
- Mix a few drops of baby shampoo (or mild soap) into a spray bottle of water. Shake well.
-
Spray Slip Solution:
- Generously spray the slip solution on the area where the decal/sun strip will be placed. This allows you to reposition the decal easily before it adheres fully.
-
Peel and Apply:
- Peel off the backing of the decal/sun strip.
- With the adhesive side exposed, carefully place it on the wet surface. Adjust the position if needed.
-
Squeegee the Surface:
- Use a squeegee (or credit card wrapped in cloth) to remove excess water and air bubbles. Start from the center and push outward. Be gentle to avoid damaging the decal.
- Frequently spray the top surface with slip solution to prevent scratching.
-
Trim Excess (if needed):
- Use a sharp utility knife or razor blade to carefully trim any excess material along the edges. Use the windshield edges as a guide.
-
Final Squeegee:
- Once in place, firmly squeegee the sun strip/decal again to remove any remaining water and air bubbles.
-
Dry and Set:
- Let it dry for 24 hours. Avoid washing the car or using windshield wipers during this period to ensure the decal sets properly.
Tips:
- Use a heat gun or hair dryer to gently warm the decal if you encounter any stubborn bubbles or edges that don't stick well.
- Take your time during the trimming process to avoid uneven cuts.
That's it! You should now have a perfectly installed sun strip or decal using slip solution.
